Who we protect

PBI volunteer providing protective accompaniment in Kenya

"Everyone has the right, individually and in association with others, to promote and to strive for the protection and realisation of human rights and fundamental freedoms at the national and international levels."

Article 1, UN Declaration on human rights defenders, adopted in 1998

PBI accompanies a wide variety of threatened activists, including indigenous communities, environmental organisations, lawyers, women’s organisations, trades unions, human rights activists and relatives of the disappeared.
The people PBI protects are courageous and committed. We are proud to be working alongside them to create space for peace and justice.
